The early reception will be the second year of a new CCGA tradition for our members to network and socialize outside our normal meetings and events.
We are combining the reception with the Wild Hog Supper, a Georgia tradition dating to 1962 that marks the opening of the legislative session each year. In recent years, the supper has been controversial because the host group would not operate transparently, refusing to disclose contributions and expenses for what we felt was clearly a lobbying event. That group has now disbanded and turned the event over to the Georgia Food Bank Association, which is using it as a fundraiser for their work. GFBA has not only committed to being open and transparent about all contributions and expenses, but as their director told us recently - “even the Governor has to have a ticket” – so we applaud them for eliminating the lobbyist gift giving and lack of transparency controversy surrounding a fun event with important traditions.
