I Want Big Money OUT of Politics!
Our state has the power to lead the fight to make our elections more equitable. And this year, we’re championing legislation to end the ban on public financing in jurisdictions across California and thus reduce the power wealthy special interests have over politicians and policy in our cities, counties, and state.
California Common Cause has already been fighting back against Citizens United. We led the way in passing bold pay-to-play legislation and in strengthening transparency laws, but there is a lot more work to do. We need systemic solutions that lift up the voices of regular people.
By ending the statewide ban on public financing, California residents from all over the state will have the opportunity to pass “Democracy Dollars” programs or “matching funds” programs in their localities – and ensure that regular people like you and me play a vital part in our campaign finance system.
If you believe, like I do, that government should be of, by, and for the people: Join me in demanding California lawmakers take action to mitigate the influence of Big Money in our politics!
