The arrest of Brad Lander – both a United States citizen and a duly elected official – by masked federal agents is pure fascism. ICE has no authority to arrest the Comptroller who was well within his role and his rights to request to see a judicial warrant for the arrest of a New York City resident.

This is only the latest chilling example of the lawlessness the Trump administration has unleashed across the country. New York will not cow to authoritarianism, and we urge every elected official to speak out forcefully against this assault on the rule of law.

We won't let our country become a dictatorship where people get abducted from their families, peaceful protestors get violently suppressed, and politicians like Donald Trump can silence anyone in their way.
