AG Moody: Drop this shameless voter suppression scheme

Attorney General Ashley Moody

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody just announced a shameful, last-minute move to claw back the right to vote from Floridians who have already been unfairly disenfranchised.

Florida voters passed the Rights Restoration Amendment 4 in 2018 because they believed that Floridians who have served a prison term should be able to cast a ballot -- then the Legislature overrode them, adding extra financial hoops for returning citizens to jump through.

And, when activists -- plus a few major donors, like Mike Bloomberg -- mobilized to pay off outstanding legal debt for individuals who couldn’t afford to pay this poll tax, Attorney General Moody baselessly accused them of breaking the law. [1]

Tell Attorney General Ashley Moody that the right to vote should NEVER be conditioned on economic circumstances.

Our government is stronger and more representative when our elections include more voters -- but instead of keeping Floridians safe, our government is trying as hard as they can to make it harder for them to vote. Attorney General Moody must give Florida’s returning citizens a fair say in our future.
