Fight back against fraudulent dark money schemes
Florida State Legislature

Hundreds of thousands of dollars in dark money flooded into the bank accounts of three “ghost candidates” for Florida State Senate this year -- shills in an elaborate scheme to siphon away votes from Democratic candidates. [1]
This scheme was made possible by Florida’s notoriously weak campaign finance regulations -- which allowed these candidates to be supported by $550,0000 from the same newly-created dark money PAC, which sent out virtually-identical mailers to Democratic voters attempting to sway their vote, and take advantage of loopholes in state law to disclose almost nothing about the source of their funding.
The Florida Legislature must strengthen its campaign finance regulations to ensure this never happens again: enacting stricter disclosure laws for companies attempting to influence Florida elections, and creating a system to hold candidates accountable for the information they write on their filing forms.
Urge the Florida Legislature to fight back against these fraudulent dark money schemes by taking immediate action to strengthen our state’s campaign finance laws.

Our elections are the backbone of our democracy, and voters’ confidence in the integrity of our elections is crucial. But our democracy is undermined when dark money organizations orchestrate elaborate, fraudulent schemes meant to dilute Floridians’ voices, making it critical to strengthen our state’s campaign finance regulations.
