No pardon for Roger Stone

The White House

Once again, Donald Trump has made it clear: he doesn’t believe the rule of law applies to him or his friends.

Roger Stone -- Trump's longtime associate and former campaign advisor -- was convicted last year of lying to Congress, tampering with a witness, and obstructing an official government proceeding.

First, Trump tried to get Stone’s sentence lightened -- pressuring his compromised Attorney General William Barr to intervene. Now, Stone has been sentenced to serve over 3 in prison for his crimes -- and Trump has repeatedly threatened to pardon him entirely.

Stone lied under oath to Congress and illegally tried to derail Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference -- putting the integrity of our democracy in danger.

But Trump has often abused his pardon power as a reward for those he considers loyal, like Stone. He recently pardoned a swath of high-profile felons like former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich -- signaling to his top associates facing investigation for similar crimes that they’ll be rewarded if they don’t speak out against him.

We must demonstrate that Americans nationwide are united in defense of the rule of law -- and that we’re ready to hold any official who abuses their power accountable. Add your name: President Trump must not pardon Roger Stone.

Pardoning Roger Stone would be an unconscionable abuse of presidential power by Donald Trump. The American people will not stand for the president’s attempts to shield himself and his associates from accountability.
