Companies like Verizon and Comcast shouldn't get to control what we can see and do online – or charge massive fees to visit high-traffic websites.

But in 2017, Donald Trump's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) repealed Net Neutrality protections and eliminated its own power to oversee the Internet – meaning our ability to access the web on just, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory terms could be tampered with by Big Cable companies at any moment.

How can we fix it? Congress needs to give the FCC the authority to restore Net Neutrality protections – which is exactly what a new bill from Sen. Ed Markey, Sen. Ron Wyden, and Rep. Doris Matsui would do.

If we can get the Net Neutrality and Broadband Justice Act over the finish line – plus ensure that President Biden’s FCC nominee Gigi Sohn is confirmed – the FCC will finally be able to take REAL action to defend the Internet. But our legislators won’t act unless they hear that this is a top priority for their constituents.

So if you believe that high-speed internet should be available and affordable for all – especially people of color and people in rural regions – now is the time to speak out.

We deserve a free and fair Internet – not one that is subject to the whims of profit-hungry Big Cable companies like Verizon and Comcast. That’s why I urge Congress to pass the Net Neutrality and Broadband Justice Act and make the Internet more accessible for all of us.
