Take immediate steps to increase confidence in PUCO’s independence
Public Utilities Commission of Ohio Commissioners: Daniel R. Conway, Dennis P. Deters, Lawrence K. Friedeman, and M. Beth Trombold

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has a significant impact on every household in Ohio -- from deciding how much we pay on our utility bills to ensuring we have safe and reliable services.
But after Sam Randazzo -- the former chair -- resigned in connection with a massive bribery scandal involving utility company FirstEnergy, the commission lost some of its credibility, with his actions threatening to undermine faith in their important work. [1]
For the commission to regain Ohioans’ trust, they must prioritize transparency, and do so as soon as possible.
Urge the current commissioners on the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to voluntarily disclose their business interests so we can better identify commissioners’ conflicts of interest.

We deserve a democracy where everyone plays by common sense rules -- and where our leaders can’t get away with cheating the system for their own benefit. The commissioners of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio must voluntarily update their financial disclosure statements to include all work done with utilities, their consultants, and lobbyists over the past 10 years -- a crucial step in enhancing public confidence in the commission’s independence.
