Tell state legislators: Protect our elections from wealthy special interests

State legislatures

Right now, extremists are trying to allow corporations to vote in this Delaware town’s elections!

Ever since the Citizens United decision, millions of Americans have spoken up against the outsize influence that Big Money has in our elections and passed reforms to make sure that only real people are making decisions in our democracy.

But this new, extreme proposal in Delaware would take us far, far in the opposite direction – which is why we need a nationwide outcry to defeat it!

Anti-democracy extremists test out their most extreme ideas first at the state and local level – and if we don’t rise to face every single bill like this, the ones that pass spread like wildfire throughout the country.

Delaware has more registered businesses than residents – and these business owners don’t even have to disclose where they live. If this bill passes, business owners who don’t even live in the state could have more power over local elections than actual residents.

Or, corporate owners could vote in Delaware while still voting in their actual hometowns – effectively allowing wealthy business owners to vote twice!

The Common Cause team in Delaware is already mobilizing to stop this bill – but this is the exact kind of legislation that anti-democracy extremists will try to push at the local level and then use any success as precedent to pass parallel bills nationwide.

Corporations are not people, and business owners can’t be allowed to vote twice. Our elected officials must commit to protecting our elections from wealthy special interests.

Add your name if you agree: Our state legislators MUST protect our democracy against anti-voter legislation.

Our democracy depends on the principle of one person, one vote – and corporations shouldn’t get their own outsized voice in the local policies that govern our lives.

Our state legislators must vote no on any anti-democracy legislation – and protect our elections from wealthy special interests.
