We need a risk-limiting audit for EVERY future election
Secretary of the Commonwealth Veronica Degraffenreid

Pennsylvania just finished its statewide risk-limiting audit pilot of the November election -- a weeks-long endeavor to pilot a critical measure to confirm election results and ensure that all voters’ ballots were counted accurately. [1]
That’s great news: we fought for the implementation of a risk-limiting audit plan for years, as they play a crucial role in safeguarding our election systems and making sure that our ballot-counting processes are fair.
We’re grateful that the Department of State implemented this extraordinary pilot effort, especially given the significant challenges they’ve faced because of the pandemic. And now that we know it’s been successful, we need to put the infrastructure in place to repeat this effort for every future election.
ADD MY NAME: Any tool Pennsylvania has to promote confidence in the accuracy of elections is a tool we need to use. The PA Department of State must conduct risk-limiting audits in every election.

We are grateful to the election officials and ballot-counters who worked around-the-clock to carry out a pilot risk-limiting audit of our November election, taking extraordinary risk to fulfill this critical function of our democracy. Now that we know their work has been successful, the Department of State needs to put the infrastructure in place to repeat this effort for every future election.
