Florida Voting Rights Rally

Start: Wednesday, March 26, 202510:00 AM

End: Wednesday, March 26, 202511:30 AM

Florida has a long history of enacting laws that attack our democracy. The Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Florida Voting Rights Act (or FLVRA) is an important bill that promises to expand voter access in our state by providing key protections that prevent and guard against discriminatory voting practices.

The ultimate purpose of this bill is to build on key federal protections in the 1965 Voting Rights Act that have been eroded over the past decade by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Shelby and Brnovich cases to encourage maximum participation of all eligible voters in Florida’s political process. An electoral system that denies race, color, or language minority groups an equal opportunity to elect candidates of their choice and influence the outcome of an election is not compatible with democracy and has no place in Florida.

Join voting rights organizations, Bill Sponsors (Sen. Tracie Davis & Rep. Lavon Bracy-Davis), elected officials, community partners, and other key stakeholders for a rally in support of this necessary bill.

Event Hosted by: Common Cause, Equal Ground Action Fund, All Voting is Local Action, ACLU of Florida, State Conference of the NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and Florida Rising

We will pay special tribute to Sen. Geraldine Thompson who was a lifelong champion of voting rights and Black History and was the original Sponsor of this bill in the Senate.
