Join us on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 7 PM for a free screening of the 2025 Oscar-nominated documentary short film, Incident. The filmmakers will be in attendance and will host a talkback after the screening.

Incident bears witness to a 2018 South Side Chicago police shooting through a collection of surveillance and body camera footage. Viewers also see the immediate attempts to shape the story by the officers involved. This raw footage is a difficult watch, but one that empowers its viewers to draw their own conclusions.

Since its release in April 2023, the film has received 18 international honors, including:
• 2025 Academy Award nominee - Documentary Short
• 2025 National Magazine Award - Video
• 2025 Cinema Eye Honors - Nonfiction short
• 2023 International Documentary Association Award - Best Short Documentary

Common Cause Illinois is proud to support this screening, along with partners Invisible Institute (which also produced the film), the Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability, the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, and the Muslim Civic Coalition. The film is distributed by The New Yorker Magazine.
