LOG YOUR CALL: Tell Your State Senator To Preserve Voting and Reject SB293
Ohio Senate Bill 293 (SB293), sponsored by Sen. Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) and Sen. Andrew Brenner (R-Delaware), aims to end the four day period after Election Day where Boards of Elections can accept ballots postmarked before Election Day.
SB293 is the latest attempt to restrict voting access and disenfranchise voters, in this case those voters whose ballots are delayed in the mail through no fault of their own.
Less than two years ago, the Ohio Legislature decided to shrink the window for accepted mailed ballots from 10 days to four. Ohio is now faced with the possibility of closing the window altogether at a time when the US Postal Service is less reliable than ever.
More than 9,500 ballots were received during the November 2024 four-day post election window (source: Ohio Absentee and Early Voting Dashboard). These ballots represent citizens from across the state who exercised their constitutional right to vote. In fact, of the more than 2.6M Ohioans who voted before Election Day last year, 803,253 (31%) voters placed their trust in the US Postal Service as their preferred method of ballot return.
Call your Ohio Senator and tell them: “Stop messing with Ohio’s Elections - Vote ‘No’ on Senate Bill 293.”
You can look up your Ohio Senator HERE. Hopefully, you will have the opportunity to talk to an aide but it is fine to leave a voicemail message.
Here’s an idea of what to say: “My name is [Your Name] and I live in [Your Town]. I urge you to vote ‘No’ on Senate Bill 293 and stop the attack on an accessible form of voting so many Ohioans have come to trust and use.”
