LOG YOUR CALLS: Tell your Ohio Representative to vote NO on HJR1 or SJR2

The Ohio House is likely to vote soon on either House Joint Resolution 1 or Senate Joint Resolution 2—two proposed constitutional amendments that would radically restrict access to the ballot for citizen-led initiatives and lock in minority rule in Ohio by allowing 40% +1 of voters to dictate law and policy to everyone else.

Our access to the ballot is the only thing that allows us to push back when the (gerrymandered) legislature is unresponsive to the needs and concerns of the majority.

This is urgent, with final votes expected the week of May 1. Please make calls today to:

  • Your Ohio Representative. Find contact info HERE.
  • Speaker Stephens at 614-466-1366.

Here’s an idea of some things to say:

  • Ohioans have had access to the ballot for 111 years, and they have not abused that privilege.
  • It is already very hard to get an issue on the ballot. Making it harder will only advantage out-of-state groups with money to spend.
  • Democracy means one-person, one-vote. Do not vote to lock in minority rule in Ohio.
  • 40% of Ohioans should not be allowed to hold power of 60%. Majority rule is the basis of our democracy.
  • Locking in minority rule in Ohio means ending democracy as we know it.
  • HJR1 and SJR2 are unnecessary, unfair, undemocratic, and very, very unpopular.
  • 227 organizations and counting representing millions of Ohioans have signed on to a letter against these resolutions.
  • Vote no on HJR1/SJR2.
