Text-a-thon for Fair Maps

Voters should choose their politicians, not the other way around.

To help end gerrymandering in Onondaga County, we need you to join our text-a-thon & phone bank to make our elections safe.

PHONE BANK

If any of you are interested, I'd like to add in phone banking over the weekend and on Monday to our most engaged Onondaga activists to make sure they join the rally or make a final call to their legislators. Please sign up here if you can phone bank this weekend or Monday (using your own phone/number and a spreadsheet, there will not be a training).

TEXT BANK

Thank you to everyone who has been texting to end gerrymandering in Onondaga County! We have texted nearly 25,000 people in our target districts, and have about 5,000 left to go. On Monday we intend to follow up with folks who responded positively to make sure they took action and are joining us at the rally.

Please register here.

BACKGROUND INFO

We've been working for over 2 years with partners in Onondaga County to reform the way local districts are drawn. Last November, Syracuse voters voted to end gerrymandering in the city by establishing an independent redistricting commission. Now, we want to expand this historic reform to end gerrymandering across the entire county.

Next Tuesday, July 7, after years of work, the Onondaga County Legislature will vote whether or not to establish a citizen-led, independent redistricting commission to draw new legislative district lines for the 2021-22 redistricting cycle.

This is it — our last chance to get this right in time for post-census redistricting — otherwise we will have to wait another ten years to get fair districts in Onondaga County.

Join our text-a-thon & phone bank to end gerrymandering.

We'll be reaching out to voters in the districts of Onondaga County Legislators who signed the pledge to support fair redistricting last year when they were running for office. But now that we have a law setting up fair, citizen led redistricting up for a vote, their legislator hasn't committed to keeping their promise and vote yes.

We need their constituents to contact their county legislators and demand that they vote YES on Legislator Ryan's Local Law C — and we need you to text these constituents and encourage them to call.
