15 Years later, let’s END the Citizens United Era
U.S. Congress
Fifteen years ago, the Supreme Court handed down its disastrous Citizens United decision – opening the floodgates for unlimited corporate spending in elections.
The consequences have been dire: Corporations and special interests now spend billions to influence our elections and buy themselves a seat at the table, and an administration stacked with billionaire megadonors – the wealthiest in history – has just taken office. [1]
President Trump gave the tech billionaires who funded his campaign front row seats to his inauguration – while the people who voted for him were figuratively and literally left out in the cold.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
The Freedom to Vote Act and the DISCLOSE Act offer real, tangible solutions to our Big Money problem. These reforms would shine a light on secret political spending, get dark money out of politics, and establish small-dollar, citizen-funded elections that give everyday Americans a stronger voice in our democracy.
We know the current administration and Congress will make this an uphill battle. But even in the face of gridlock, it’s crucial that we continue to fight and make it clear that the American people refuse to accept the status quo.
If you believe that government should be of, by, and for the people – then please join us in rejecting the status quo and telling Congress we want to END the Citizens United era.

These wealthy megadonors are buying a bigger say in our democracy, and everyday Americans are paying the price.
We must undo the Citizens United status quo and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the DISCLOSE Act – so that We the People, not Big Money billionaires, call the shots.
