Anyone who voted for President-elect Trump hoping he’d shake up the political establishment is in for a rude awakening.

That’s because before even taking office, he’s already hit a shameful milestone: nominating what’d be the wealthiest Cabinet in history – chock full of loyal and politically connected billionaires. [1]

Trump’s first Cabinet had the highest total net worth of any administration in history, but he’s set to blow past even that threshold the second time around: [2]

• Linda McMahon, Secretary of Education nominee ($2.5 billion estimated net worth) wants to defund public schools and privatize our education system. [3]

• Howard Lutnick, Secretary of Commerce nominee ($1.5 billion estimated net worth) is already abusing his power to boost his cryptocurrency business interests. [4]

• Mehmet Oz, nominee to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (worth an estimated $100 to $315 million [5]), wants to privatize Medicare, hike taxes for everyday Americans, and benefit companies he’s invested in. [6]

• Doug Burgum, Secretary of the Interior nominee ($1.1 billion estimated net worth), is a climate change denier who helped bring $1 billion in Big Oil contributions to Trump’s campaign. [7]

It’s the same old story – these wealthy megadonors are buying a bigger say in our democracy, and we’re ALL going to pay the price.

The American people are hungry for change, but Donald Trump is serving up more of the same. We need a better way forward – which is why Common Cause is fighting to undo the Citizens United status quo and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the DISCLOSE Act – so everyday Americans, not Big Money billionaires, call the shots.
