Stop the SAVE Act
New York Congressmembers
Right now, House Republicans are fast-tracking their so-called “SAVE” Act.
This anti-voter wishlist, which is being pushed by far-right special interests like ALEC, is meant to deter newly naturalized citizens from voting and make it harder for ALL eligible voters to cast a ballot.
That’s because it would require every American citizen to bring specific documentation – like a passport or original copy of a birth certificate – in person to register to vote or update their voter registration. The problem? Millions of Americans don’t have these documents.
Married women who have changed their name do not have birth certificates with their current legal name. And older folks, low-income voters, and people in rural communities are significantly less likely to have passports.
To make things worse, the SAVE Act would up-end online voter registration – something voters in 42 states, including we in New York, rely on to make registering and voting more accessible.
In the weeks to come before the House vote, we’ll be sending letters, driving calls, and hand-delivering petitions into every New York Congressmembers’ district offices. We need to make as much noise as possible so our representatives know we won’t stand idly by while they gut our fundamental rights and try to block us from making our voices heard.
When we deliver our petition to your Congressmember, make sure your name is included.

As your constituents, we call on you to stand up for voters across the country and vote NO on the SAVE Act. This bill would be a disaster for our democracy, disenfranchising hundreds of thousands of Americans who do not have access to documents like passports of their birth certificates.
This bill disproportionately impacts voters of color, low-income voters, older voters, and voters in rural communities, who are less likely to have access to such documents, along with all married women. But our democracy thrives when everyone, irrespective of color, party affiliation, income, or zip code, has an equal voice in the decisions that influence our future.
It’s already illegal for non-citizens to cast a ballot in federal elections, and states have secure systems in place to prevent noncitizens from voting. Those who violate the law already face severe penalties.
We demand in the strongest terms that you commit to voting no on the SAVE Act and do all you can to defend our fundamental democratic rights.
